On Thursday 7 May 2026, the Luxembourg Employers' Association (Union des Entreprises Luxembourgeoises - UEL) announced its Board of Directors had appointed Marc Lauer as incoming president.
The UEL highlighted that at the initiative of outgoing president Michel Reckinger, Marc Lauer will actively participate in the work of the UEL in the coming months in order to prepare the transmission of the presidency, scheduled for Thursday 1 October 2026.
The UEL said in a press release: “After more than five years at the presidency of the UEL, marked by the strengthening of the areas of competence of the UEL, the holding of several tripartite and other national exchanges, Michel Reckinger expressed his willingness to organise the transmission of the UEL Presidency in the coming months.”
Michel Reckinger commented: "I thank the UEL administrators for the trust they have placed in me in recent years, during which I have been fully committed to companies and the Luxembourg economy. I expressed my wish to the Board of Directors to pass the hand at the end of the term. Anxious to ensure the continuity and effectiveness of the UEL's action, I wanted to initiate a structured succession process early enough. In the person of Marc Lauer, we have identified a candidate who brings together all the qualities necessary to continue and amplify the UEL's commitment to a strong, prosperous and competitive Luxembourg."
The UEL revealed that the search for a potential successor was triggered at the beginning of 2026.
Marc Lauer is Vice-President of the Association of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies, of which he held the presidency for seven years. He is also a full member of the Plenary Assembly of the Chamber of Commerce. The UEL remarked: “He is perfectly aware of both the Luxembourg economy and the UEL and employers' organisations ecosystem, consisting of the professional employers' chambers and the main professional federations.”
Marc Lauer: "In a context that remains complex and demanding, I approach this new responsibility with commitment and optimism. The transition period until 1 October will allow me to fully prepare for current issues. Together with all the members of the UEL, I am convinced that strong, innovative and competitive companies are one of the essential levers for a prosperous, socially balanced and competitive Luxembourg, in response to current and future challenges. I am convinced that, in this time of crisis, a constructive and respectful social dialogue is in the interest of companies and their employees and can bring a plus to our joint efforts to overcome the challenges that await us."
The UEL noted that the announcement of this change is part of a context of transition within the UEL. Following the departure of its director Marc Wagener, effective Friday 15 May 2026, an interim governance has been put in place, composed of members of the executive committee, each intervening according to his area of expertise. The UEL said this re-organisation aims to guarantee the stability and continuity of activities, especially as the next deadlines approach, in particular tripartite.
