On Thursday 5 November 2026, the Health Directorate of Luxembourg's Ministry of Health and Social Security published its weekly overview of the evolution of major acute respiratory infections, including COVID-19, influenza (flu) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), for the week of Monday 26 October to Sunday 1 November 2026 (week 44).

COVID-19 / SARS-CoV-2 cases continue to decrease

During week 44, the number of positive COVID-19 cases decreased from 91 to 81, a drop of 11% on the previous week.

Wastewater monitoring, however, showed a rise in viral concentration.

The latest sequencing data shows the XFG variant is the most common, at 49.4%, followed by RW.1 at 20.8%.

Flu cases increase but remain at a low level

During week 44, the number of flu cases reported by laboratories increased from 36 to 62, representing a 72% increase compared to the previous week. Despite the jump, the number is in line with what is usually seen at this time of year. The coming weeks should show whether it is the start of an upward trend or just a one-week fluctuation.

During the last week, influenza A accounted for 97% of typed cases, while influenza B represented 3%.

Low level of RSV cases

The number of RSV cases reported by laboratories remained low, with five cases reported during week 44, compared to two the week before.
