Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel attends a ministerial meeting in support of UNRWA, with the participation of the UN Secretary-General and organized by Jordan, Spain and Brazil;

On Friday 25 September 2026, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Cooperation and Foreign Trade Humanitarian Action reported on the continued his stay of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Cooperation and Humanitarian Action, Xavier Bettel, in New York on the occasion of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
As reported by the ministry, from Thursday 24 to Friday 25 September, Minister Bettel took part in a high-level meeting of the “Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution”, jointly organised by Saudi Arabia and France.
During the meeting, Minister Bettel reaffirmed Luxembourg’s steadfast commitment to the two-state solution.
Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister also participated in a conference in support of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), attended by the Secretary-General of the United Nations and organised by Jordan, Spain, Brazil and Norway.
In his remarks, Minister Bettel reaffirmed Luxembourg’s commitment to UNRWA and its mandate, as well as the important role played by the Agency in providing essential services and delivering the humanitarian response in Gaza and the region. Indeed, there is currently no other alternative that could replace the Agency.
Minister Bettel also took part in a high-level meeting of small European states organised by Cyprus and Andorra.
Moreover, Minister Bettel held bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Oman and Guyana. An air services agreement was also signed with his Guyanese counterpart.
