On Thursday 11 December 2025, Luxembourg's Minister for Mobility and Public Works, Yuriko Backes, inaugurated the new Dippach-Gare bypass.
The inauguration took place in the presence of Manon Bei-Roller, Mayor of Dippach, Carlo Muller, Mayor of Reckange-sur-Mess, representatives from the Luxembourg National Roads Administration and the Luxembourg National Railways (CFL), as well as Max Hahn, Minister for Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception of Refugees.
Aimed at improving the quality of life and easing traffic, the construction of this bypass began on 7 March 2023; it will open to traffic from Friday 12 December 2025 at 12:00.
This is part of the project set to double-track the Pétange-Luxembourg railway line, which was constructed between 2004 and 2012, mainly focusing on eliminating level crossing PN5 on the N13 national road. The road provides a direct link between the towns of Reckange-sur-Mess and Bettange-sur-Mess, offering an alternative to the Route des Trois Cantons, which crosses the town.
"With this bypass, we are taking a crucial step to improve mobility in the town of Dippach and its surroundings. Today, thanks to this modern infrastructure, we aim for smoother traffic flow, enhanced safety and an improved quality of life for the local population. It illustrates our shared commitment to concrete solutions, serving our fellow citizens," emphasised Minister Backes.
The level crossing (PN5) at Dippach-Reckange railway station will be permanently closed to road traffic starting on Tuesday 16 December 2025 at 08:00. From that point on, motorists will be asked to use the new bypass.
According to the authorities, the CFL Infrastructure Manager will secure the level crossing site to ensure the safety of passengers, residents and CFL staff.
CFL passengers taking the train at Dippach-Reckange (Luxembourg-Bascharage-Sanem-Rodange-Athus/Longwy line) can still use the car parks, which are located near the train station, and take the two underpasses to reach either platform on foot.
People with reduced mobility or those travelling by bicycle or stroller are asked to use the underpass located in the middle of the platforms via the lifts available on each platform. Signage will be in place to guide them.
With the continuation of their level crossing elimination programme, the CFL is eliminating crossing points between the road and rail networks. Each year, the CFL eliminates an average of one to two of these crossing points, as they can be dangerous when traffic laws are not followed.
