The Grand Ducal Police have announced that their national road safety campaign “Gutt Gesinn” (“Good Sense”) will run from Monday 19 to Sunday 25 January 2026.
According to the police, the campaign will focus on two provisions of the Highway Code that are not always observed.
Firstly, checks will focus on the condition of vehicle windows. Driving a vehicle without a clear view ahead or to the sides constitutes a significant risk to road users. At the same time, inspections will also cover the condition of number plates.
Secondly, checks will also focus on compliance with the right-of-way rules in road traffic. Particular attention will be paid to pedestrian crossings, as well as to all other traffic situations, notably at junctions and traffic lights.
The police remind drivers that during the winter period heightened vigilance is essential on the roads. They may be wet, slippery or even icy and the risk of an accident is high.
In this context, the police emphasised that it is important to adapt driving to the weather conditions:
• maintain safe following distances;
• always observe speed limits;
• avoid sudden manoeuvres and take care on bends;
• consider the condition of the road and the increased braking distance, whether driving a car or operating another vehicle.
In addition, the police noted that the condition of vehicles plays a crucial role. From winter tyres, which are mandatory in winter conditions, to vehicle lighting, it is important to check one’s vehicle regularly.
