ICOM Luxembourg has reported that the 29th edition of the Luxembourg Museum Days, held on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 May 2026, attracted a total of 20,461 visits across 36 participating museums.

Visitor numbers were up by 8.9% compared to the 2025 edition, which recorded 18,783 visits. According to the organisers, this increase reflects growing public interest in Luxembourg's museums and in this annual cultural event.

Over the weekend, 36 museums across Luxembourg welcomed visitors for what the organisers described as an "exceptional cultural programme in a friendly atmosphere". For two days, the public enjoyed free access to the participating museums' permanent collections and temporary exhibitions.

This year's programme invited visitors of all ages to discover museums in new ways through themed tours, participatory workshops, musical entertainment, artistic performances, storytelling walks and other original experiences organised especially for the occasion.

Held in conjunction with the International Council of Museums' (ICOM) International Museum Day, celebrated annually on 18 May, the Luxembourg Museum Days form part of a wider international initiative promoting cultural heritage. ICOM's 2026 theme, "Museums Uniting a Divided World", inspired many of the activities organised in Luxembourg over the weekend.

The Luxembourg Museum Days will return in May 2027 for the 30th anniversary edition.

The event is coordinated by ICOM Luxembourg, in collaboration with participating member museums and with the support of Enovos.
