Luxembourg’s National Museum of Resistance and Human Rights in Esch-sur-Alzette has announced a photography competition titled “Through the Lens – Women in Our Society”.
According to the museum, the competition is organised as part of the “Women in War” exhibition by American photojournalist Lynsey Addario, which is running at the museum from 7 March to 20 December 2026. Inspired by Addario’s work documenting the struggles, suffering and resilience of women in conflict zones, the competition aims to highlight the roles and involvement of women in society and offer a diverse portrayal of what it means to “be a woman” in Luxembourg and the Greater Region in 2026.
Participants are invited to submit a photo essay consisting of a series of five photographs illustrating aspects of women’s daily lives, including professional, community, family, cultural and sporting commitments, work conditions, struggles, emotions and discrimination, while avoiding common clichés.
The competition is open to both amateur and professional photographers living in Luxembourg and neighbouring regions. Each participant may submit one series of five photographs, which must tell a coherent story in the spirit of photojournalism.
Photographs must be submitted as a series of five images. Entries should be sent by email to concours@mnr.lu by Monday 31 August 2026 at midnight. Further details and participation rules are available on mnr.lu.
The museum noted that the jury will award several prizes, including three Jury Prizes, three Special Youth Prizes, Special Mentions and a People’s Choice Award. Selected photo series will be displayed during an exhibition scheduled to take place on Place de la Résistance in Esch-sur-Alzette and in the entrance hall of the museum, with the opening planned for Saturday 10 October 2026 at 11:00.
In addition to the exhibition, selected photographs will also be published in the Périodique de la Résistance, in Janette Magazine and on social media platforms.
The museum is also organising photography workshops and portfolio review sessions focusing on photographic storytelling. Further information is available on mnr.lu.
