On Wednesday 7 October 2026, the Espace Namur in Luxembourg-Hamm hosted a press conference for Bancomat Luxembourg.
Bancomat Luxembourg is an initiative led by five of the country’s major retail banks, Spuerkeess, BGL BNP Paribas, BIL, POST Luxembourg and Banque Raiffeisen: it was launched in late 2023 with the aim of pooling and modernising Luxembourg’s ATM network.
The Bancomat project is now reaching a new milestone in its rollout, with a series of new features that will be progressively rolled out across the Grand Duchy.
Withing this rollout will be a significant reduction in the number of ATMS installed, falling from 405 at the end of 2023 to 237 during 2027, a reduction of 168 ATMs, of which 103 have already been "retired".
Didier Richter, President of LuxConstellation SA, the operators of the Bancomat initiative in Luxembourg, welcomed everyone and covered the history of the Bancomat initiative in Luxembourg with the five principal retail banks in the Grand Duchy and confirmed that clients of the five retail banks are not charged for using their service.
Thibault Monier, CEO, and Claude Clain, COO, addressed the aims of the project, one of which is to make access available to more of the country's population, rising from 91.8% to 94% by the end of next year, with other potential sites identified which, if exploited, would increase the coverage to 97%.
The entire network of Bancomat ATMs is being renewed, all available in five languages (Luxembourgish, French, German, English, Portuguese) as well as braille guides and audio guides (French, German, English, Portuguese), and all secured with gas detectors and ink sprayers in case of hijacking attempts, as well as being configured to be used by clients of other banks, both national and international. The interface used by each bank will be standard, albeit with different logos and colour branding; and 80% of ATMs will accept cash deposits, with new features including contactless and digital wallets.
On the environmental side, the new-generation ATMs will use less energy as they are equippred with LED ligting.
The new rollout comes with a rebranding, including a change in Bancomat logo which involes a font change and using blue instead of red around the "O". From the outside, each ATM will be branded "Bancomat" in blue instead of the individual banks' branding (which can surrounding the ATM and within the user interface).
