On Tuesday 1 July 2025, Luxembourg's national railway company, the CFL, announced that during various periods from Friday 11 July to Sunday 14 September 2025, four lines will be impacted by work being carried out to update the rail network infrastructure.
As reported by the CFL, the affected rail lines are:
Luxembourg - Esch/Alzette - Rodange: Friday 11 July to Sunday 14 September 2025
Luxembourg - Thionville - Metz: Friday 11 July to Sunday 14 September 2025
Luxembourg - Ettelbruck - Troisvierges - Gouvy: Saturday 19 July to Sunday 10 August 2025
Luxembourg - Wasserbillig - Trier: Saturday 23 August to Sunday 14 September 2025
CFL noted that these works will take place during school holidays, a period with lower passenger numbers, ensuring more buses are available to provide cover for the cancelled trains. They have confirmed that more than 200 drivers will operate over 1,100 daily journeys throughout the period of the works.
To avoid overcrowding at the Luxembourg bus station (Gare routière), alternative departure and arrival points have been set in the city: Rocade Station (Luxembourg-Bonnevoie); Boulevard Paul Eyschen (Luxembourg-Limpertsberg); Luxexpo (Luxembourg-Kirchberg).
Timetables for replacement buses are available at http://www.cfl.lu or via the CFL mobile and Mobiliteit.lu apps.
CFL has advised that passengers allow an additional 25 to 45 minutes for their journeys.
