On Tuesday 27 October 2026, Luxembourg's national railway company, CFL, announced that CFL multimodal had launched a new intermodal connection between its hub in Bettembourg-Dudelange, Luxembourg, and the Schavemaker terminal near Wrocław, Poland.

According to CFL, the first train departed on 20 October 2026, marking a further step in the expansion of CFL multimodal's European rail network and strengthening freight transport between Central and Western Europe.

The new train operates with four round trips per week and is designed to transport cranable and non-cranable semi-trailers, containers and swap bodies. Each train can carry up to 38 transport units, offering customers regular and reliable transport capacity between Poland and Western Europe.

By connecting one of Poland's "most dynamic industrial and logistics regions" to the Bettembourg-Dudelange hub, the new service provides direct access to CFL multimodal's extensive network serving key European markets. Through its network of logistics partners, CFL multimodal also offers first- and last-mile solutions, "ensuring seamless integration into customers' supply chains."

The launch responds to growing demand for scalable and sustainable transport solutions capable of reducing dependency on long-distance road transport while maintaining operational flexibility and supply chain reliability.

Sven Löffler, Chief Commercial Officer of CFL multimodal, stated: "When selecting a transport solution, customers today primarily focus on available transport capacity, service regularity and the ability to plan operations over the long term. Scalability and cost predictability are also becoming increasingly important. The new Wrocław connection addresses these needs."

The service is operated in cooperation with key partners along the corridor. CFL cargo provides rail traction together with Captrain Polska on the Polish section of the route, while the terminal services are offered by CFL terminals and Schavemaker. This partnership combines international reach with strong local expertise, creating a reliable and efficient transport corridor between Poland and Luxembourg.

Beyond intermodal transport services, customers can benefit from the wide range of facilities available at the Bettembourg-Dudelange hub, including secured truck parking with onsite driver welfare facilities, logistics services as well as custom-made warehousing solutions.

Reynald Nicolas, CEO of CFL intermodal, stated: "The new Wrocław connection is more than just a link between two terminals. Through the hub in Bettembourg, customers gain access to an extensive network of connections covering key destinations across Western Europe." He added: "In intermodal transport, it is not only the connection itself that matters, but also the opportunities for onward transport and the service frequency that enable transport operations to be planned and executed efficiently. These are exactly the benefits that our new service brings to the market."

According to CFL, the new connection forms part of CFL multimodal's long-term strategy to expand its European intermodal network and support the modal shift from road to rail by offering reliable, efficient and sustainable transport solutions across major freight corridors.
