Shortly before 08:00 on Wednesday 17 September 2025, Luxembourg's national railway company, the CFL, reported that trains on the Luxembourg – Thionville – Metz line are currently suspended between Luxembourg and Thionville (in both directions).
According to the CFL, the technical failure of a freight train on the French railway network (between Thionville and Hettange-Grande) currently prevents trains from running in both directions between Luxembourg and Metz.
The CFL has now confirmed that train traffic between Luxembourg and Thionville (in both directions) has been partially resumed. The clearance of the broken-down freight train between Thionville and Hettange-Grande is being organised on the French side.
Trains between Luxembourg and Thionville are currently on a track between both Luxembourg and France. However, delays and cancellations are to be expected.
Further information on alternative services and timetables is available on the CFL mobile application or the timetable search on the website www.cfl.lu.
