On Monday 23 June 2025, the Home from Home "expat shop" in Strassen is celebrating the opening of its long-awaited Teapot Parlour with an Open House between 12:00 - 16:00.
In addition to serving tea and scones, they will also be serving a sausage and bacon barbecue.
Home from Home opened to the public in October 2017, providing fresh and non-perishable foods from England, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, South Africa and the US as well as many other countries.
The second phase saw them opening a Gift Shop in May 2024, where they keep a well-stocked selection of cards, English-language books for both adults and children, as well as other gifts including mugs, teapots, linens and rugs, etc. - see https://chronicle.lu/category/shopping-1/49918-home-from-home-teapot-parlour-opened.
The third phase involved the planning for its Teapot Parlour which is now ready to open; they have a new kitchen installed from where they will prepare fried breakfasts and teas.
Ahead of the opening, Chronicle.lu got to talk with those behind this latest initiative.
Sarah Smith said: "We've been talking and planning the opening of a tearoom together, for at least five years. Home from Homes' Teapot Parlour will finally open its door for a sneaky peak and charity barbecue (proceeds to Think Pink and HCPT) on this National Day afternoon and of course cream teas will be served too…"
Sonya Heffernan explained: "We want to show everyone how close we are to being fully up and running, then we will also be able to serve the greatly anticipated fried breakfast!"
John Heffernan added: "I wish to thank the whole team for their dedication and hard work on this project: Sony, Sarah and Liv, for their artistic talents so well portrayed; Andy for his project management on the kitchen, and Calum and Phillipe for keeping all running smoothly, while the works progressed".
