Luxembourg Claims 3 National Records at European Aquatics Championships

On Thursday 13 August 2026, Luxembourg swimmers set three new national records on the fourth day of the 2026 European Aquatics Championships in Paris.

During the morning session, Rémi Fabiani competed in the men's 50m backstroke heats, where he broke his own national record with a time of 24.74 seconds. He placed thirteenth overall and qualified for the semi-finals among the top sixteen swimmers. In the evening, the Grand Duchy swimmer clocked 24.96 seconds and did not qualify for the final.

16-year-old Emma Barthel also improved her own national record in the women's 200m breaststroke, clocking 2:33.93 to finish 23rd overall.

The men's 4x100m freestyle relay team of Ralph Daleiden Ciuferri, Rémi Fabiani, Finn Kemp and Florian Frippiat set Luxembourg's third national record of the day, clocking 3:17.32. According to the Luxembourg Swimming and Lifesaving Federation (FLNS), it marked the first time that Team Luxembourg had completed the event in under three minutes and 20 seconds. The quartet finished fifteenth overall, less than two seconds outside the top ten.

Ralph Daleiden Ciuferri, who opened the relay with a personal best of 48.55 seconds in the 100m freestyle, had earlier competed in the men's 200m freestyle, where he recorded the second-fastest time of his career with 1:47.98.

Lou Jominet also competed in the women's 1,500m freestyle, finishing in 17:04.69 to place 21st.
