With the end-of-year festivities getting underway, Chronicle.lu is compiling a series of articles exploring some of the Christmas markets taking place across the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
While major events such as the markets in Luxembourg City and Esch-sur-Alzette run for several weeks, many smaller yet equally charming local markets open for just one day or a single weekend.
Next up is the "Chrëschtmaart" (Christmas market) in Ettelbruck, which took place from Friday 12 to Sunday 14 December 2025. The market was spread across the pedestrian zones near Grand Rue and Place de la Libération, featuring two stages and more than 20 stands run by local sports clubs, cultural and youth associations, charitable organisations and other community groups.
Visitors could browse a variety of gift ideas, such as crocheted toys, handmade decorations and puzzles. Food included grilled meat and chips (fries), "cachupa" (a Cape Verdean stew), chilli con and sin carne, as well as soups such as "Ierzebulli" (a traditional Luxembourgish pea soup). Mulled wine and other drinks were also available.
Festive street entertainment added to the atmosphere, including a singing tree performer and other acts who brought a touch of magic to Ettelbruck. Christmas lights and decorations, particularly around the church area, also helped create a warm and inviting setting.
Chronicle.lu visited the market on Saturday 13 December around lunchtime, when it was lively but not overcrowded, with energetic performances and a steady flow of visitors enjoying the festivities. Both cash and card / Payconiq payments were generally accepted at the stands.
