On Thursday 26 March 2026, Luxembourg's Theater Federatioun (Theatre Federation) will host a gathering of theatre professionals on the occasion of World Theatre Day, at Neumünster Abbey (neimënster) in Luxembourg Grund.
World Theatre Day was established in 1962 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI). To mark the occasion, each year a prominent figure from the world of theatre writes an official message in which they share their thoughts on the theme of theatre and the culture of peace. This year’s message will be delivered by actor Willem Dafoe.
Around twenty representatives from various ‘ITI Centres’ in Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania will be present at Neumünster Abbey, where events will include a keynote speech by ITI World Ambassador in Residence, Lemi Ponifasio, and two roundtable discussions.
Programme:
⁃ 09.00: the official reading of the annual message written by Willem Dafoe;
⁃ 09.20: keynote speech by the ‘ITI World Ambassador in Residence’, Mr Lemi Ponifasio: “We Are Never Meant To Walk Alone”;
⁃ 10.30: roundtable discussion: “Beyond Entertainment: Theatre as a Responsibility”;
⁃ 12.30: roundtable discussion: “Seeing Forward: Theatre and the Courage to Imagine”.
Entry is free and open to the public.
