The City of Luxembourg (VdL) has announced that on Saturday 13 June 2026, from 11:30 to 21:00, it will host Encounters Without Borders, a sporting and intercultural day at the Boy Konen sports complex in Cessange.

The programme includes football and beach volleyball tournaments as well as a friendly festival combining music, games and activities for the whole family.

The event is freely accessible to the general public: all games, activities and entertainment are free of charge and open to everyone, without prior registration. The official opening, in the presence of members of the College of the Mayor and Aldermen of Luxembourg City, will take place at 11:30.

Organised in collaboration with the non-profit association CLAE Services (Committee for Liaison of Foreigners’ Associations) and OPTIN, the VdL said the day reflects its commitment to the integration of the many nationalities present on its territory through sport and culture.

According to the VdL, the capital of the Grand Duchy currently has approximately 70% foreign-born citizens and 168 different nationalities.

A day designed for the whole family

The football and beach volleyball tournaments are at the heart of Encounters Without Borders: they highlight the intercultural dimension of the event through teams bringing together players of multiple nationalities around a shared passion, sport. Individuals or teams wishing to take part in the tournaments are asked to register via rsf.vdl.lu, via email: rsf@optin.lu or tel: 262 590 26, subject to availability.

The VdL remarked that true to this spirit of sharing and openness, the 2026 edition of the event further strengthens the family dimension of the event. Throughout the day, a wide range of activities, games and entertainment will be offered to all audiences: a children’s trail (“Abenteuerland”), a giant darts game, a mini golf course as well as a mini football pitch specially designed for very young children.

Smoothie bike stands, where visitors can prepare their own drinks and ice cream stands will also be on site, while participants and spectators will also have the opportunity to discover culinary specialities from different countries and enjoy a true gastronomic journey. The day will conclude with musical performances from 18:00 to 21:00, including an open mic session open to both amateurs and professionals.
