
The Minister of Defence today named Colonel Alain Duschène for Army Chief of Staff, a position the Colonel will take over from the current holder, General Romain Mancinelli, on 30 September 2017.
On his appointment Colonel Duschène will become a General.
At the end of the Governing Council, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Étienne Schneider said, ”I would like to congratulate General Mancinelli on completing the restructuring exercise that concluded with the adoption of a new organisational chart in September 2016. Colonel Duschène will be able to draw on the considerable work already accomplished, as well as on his long military experience at both the national and international levels, to continue modernising the Luxembourg Army, while preserving its social role."
Colonel Alain Duschène joined the army as a volunteer soldier in 1978. He then graduated from the Royal Military Academy in Brussels and received a "Bachelor's degree in Social and Military Sciences" . From March to August 1993, he assumed command of the 3rd Luxembourg detachment of UNPROFOR in the former Yugoslavia. From 1995 to 1998 he was seconded to the European Corps in Strasbourg as the national representative of Luxembourg. After serving as Personnel Officer and Public Relations Officer for several years, he was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army in March 2008, until now. Aged 57, Colonel Duschene is married and the father of two daughters.
