The Luxembourg American Cultural Society in Wisconsin, USA, has announced that an event is being organised later this month for people of Luxembourgish descent in Oklahoma.

Oklahomans of Luxembourgish descent and anyone interested in knowing more about how Luxembourgers arrived in Oklahoma are invited to meet from 10:30 to noon on Saturday 17 October 2015 at the Oklahoma History Center (800 Nazih Zuhdi Drive, Oklahoma City, OK 73105).
 
Featured speaker will be John Magerus, who will give a presentation on "Why Are There Luxembourgers in Oklahoma?" Magerusis a graduate of Mt. St. Mary High School in Oklahoma City, a retired Dean and Professor at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, and an amateur genealogist. His talk will review the three major periods of immigration from Luxembourg to the United States as well as tell how he discovered his Luxembourg heritage.

Some families of Luxembourg origin who settled in Oklahoma include the following names and locales:
 
- Reding: Oklahoma City, El Reno, and Chickasha
- Magerus, Rischard:  Oklahoma City
- Rolling, Gengler, Malget, Wagoner, Steichen: Noble County
- Goetzinger:  Kingfisher County
- Wathor, Schiltz: Kay County
- Arens: Grant County
 
In addition to the presentation, information provided by the Luxembourg American Cultural Society and Center will be made available. Evelyn Steichen Otto of Ponca City, Oklahoma, will be making a donation of microfilm containing past issues of the Luxembourg Gazette for use in the research library of the Oklahoma History Center. The Luxembourg American Cultural Society and Center will also make a donation of materials to the research library. Participants will be able to visit the research library.
