Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Xavier Bettel, participated in the informal "Gymnich" meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, Belgium on Saturday 3 February 2024.
The first working session focused on relations between the European Union and Africa. The ministers addressed the need to better understand the demands of African countries, as well as better implementing commitments made by the EU and adapting European aid to the situation on the African continent.
Minister Bettel and his European counterparts then discussed the situation in the Middle East, particularly in Gaza, and the need to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population. The EU's continued support for Ukraine was also on the agenda, as were relations with Turkey.
