The Luxembourg government has confirmed that Prime Minister Luc Frieden and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Xavier Bettel, are travelling to New York (US) to participate in the high-level week of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80).

A highlight of the week is set to be the high-level event dedicated to the implementation of the Israel-Palestine two-state solution, co-organised by France and Saudi Arabia as a follow-up to the New York conference held at the end of July 2025. Prime Minister Frieden will deliver a statement on behalf of Luxembourg.

According to the respective government ministries, the UNGA80 will feature a "particularly busy schedule", offering Luxembourg's Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister the opportunity to participate in several high-level meetings, bilateral meetings and side events. This year, Prime Minister Frieden will also deliver the address on behalf of Luxembourg during the General Assembly's general debate.

Luxembourg's Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister recently announced the government's intention to formally recognise the State of Palestine during the New York conference. Countries such as the United Kingdom, Portugal, Australia and Canada officially did so already on Sunday 21 September 2025, with France, Belgium and other nations set to follow suit at the UN General Assembly.

Martine Deprez, Luxembourg's Minister of Health and Social Security, will also be in New York for the high-level week. She will participate in the high-level meeting on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases and on the promotion of mental health and well-being. On the sidelines of the General Assembly, Minister Deprez will hold other meetings and visits related to her duties as Minister of Health and Social Security.

The Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister are all set to attend a reception at the Permanent Representation of Luxembourg, where they will meet with members of the New York-based Luxembourg community.
