Late on Tuesday 3 March 2026, Luxembourg's Ministry of Mobility and Public Works and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade issued a press release confirming that the government was examining "all options" to organise repatriation flights in the context of the crisis in the Middle East.
The Luxembourg government is exploring various options to charter flights to repatriate approximately 600 Luxembourg travellers currently stranded in the region, "as quickly and safely as possible".
The two ministries, together with relevant stakeholders, have identified several repatriation options in recent days, including flights operated by Luxair in coordination with the government. These repatriation flights would be organised in stages over the coming days.
In close consultation with partners, particularly Belgium, Luxembourg's Directorate of Defence is also assessing repatriation options using military aircraft, including the A400M or aircraft from the MRTT fleet.
Moreover, Luxair has stationed a first non-commercial flight in Hurghada, Egypt, which could be used for repatriation, subject to the evolving security situation. At present, Muscat, Oman, could be the departure point for repatriation flights.
A priority order for repatriation will be established based on objective criteria and communicated to the passengers concerned, including families with children and individuals with medical conditions. Travellers contacted beforehand by the Foreign Ministry's consular assistance service will have access to subsequent flights. The consular assistance service will progressively contact all affected individuals "in the coming hours and days".
The ministries stressed that the safety of Luxembourg travellers remains the "absolute priority at all times". While no flights can be confirmed at this stage, the options under consideration will be continuously adapted and implemented according to the evolving risks, in close coordination with Luxembourg's representation on the ground and aviation stakeholders, as well as in collaboration with the local authorities responsible for airspace management.
