On Thursday 5 March 2026, Luxair issued a press statement regarding its first repatriation flight to return travellers affected by the current situation in the Middle East.
Luxair reported that it had organised the flight in close coordination with the Luxembourg Government and a large number of Luxair teams had been mobilised to support this operation.
Luxair noted that, given the complex situation and challenging conditions at the destination, organising the flight required significant effort. The airline fully recognised the difficult circumstances and uncertainty faced by passengers and said it is pleased to assist in facilitating their safe return.
According to Luxair, the aircraft, which initially flew from Muscat and stopped in Hurghada due to crew duty time limitations, is en route to Luxembourg with 104 passengers on board, including nine children, and is scheduled to arrive today at around 18.45 on Thursday 5 March.
The airline said that with this operation, Luxembourg is among the first European countries to facilitate the return of travellers from the region and the flight was arranged as part of the coordinated national efforts led by the Luxembourg Government.
Luxair expressed its thanks to Luxembourg’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, including the dedicated staff of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs who supported the operation on the ground, as well as the civil aviation authorities and all partners involved for the very smooth and efficient cooperation that made this operation possible.
Luxair also thanked Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and Minister of Defence Yuriko Backes for their strong support and close collaboration over the past several days in making this operation possible.
Luxair confirmed that despite the complex and rapidly evolving situation affecting aviation operations across the region, work is ongoing in close coordination with the Luxembourg Government to organise a second repatriation flight.
"I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all Luxair teams and our partners for their exceptional commitment over the past days. In a complex and rapidly changing situation, our colleagues demonstrated professionalism, solidarity, and unwavering dedication to bringing our passengers home safely. We are fully aware of the difficult conditions and challenges faced by passengers at the destination and are doing everything possible to assist them. This operation reflects the very best of Luxair: people who step up, collaborate, and act with purpose when it matters most. I am immensely proud of all of you. I would also like to thank our passengers for their patience, understanding and cooperation under very challenging circumstances.", said Gilles Feith, CEO of Luxair.
