On Tuesday 7 April 2026, Luxembourg’s Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and Foreign Trade, Xavier Bettel, met his Montenegrin counterpart, Filip Ivanović, to discuss bilateral relations and Montenegro’s European Union accession process.

The meeting highlighted the strong bilateral ties between Luxembourg and Montenegro, also reflected in the well-integrated Montenegrin diaspora in Luxembourg.

According to Luxembourg’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, discussions also covered key international developments, as well as Montenegro’s path towards EU membership. Minister Bettel reiterated the importance of meeting the Copenhagen criteria, congratulated Montenegro on the progress achieved and encouraged continued reforms in line with the EU acquis.

The technical assistance provided by Luxembourg to Montenegro in this context was also discussed.
