From Thursday 24 to Friday 25 July 2025, as part of his official visit to the Grand Duchy, Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister), Micheál Martin undertook a series of official engagements, which included a meeting with Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden.

During the first day of his visit, the Taoiseach met with Prime Minister Frieden and representatives from Luxembourg’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Ministry of Finance at Senningen Castle, where they held talks, which focused on the continued strengthening of bilateral relations between Luxembourg and Ireland, as well as current European political issues and recent international developments.

The Taoiseach and Prime Minister Frieden then travelled to Echternach where they undertook a tour of the Abbey of Echternach and visited the crypt of Anglo-Saxon missionary, Saint Willibrord - the patron saint of Luxembourg who has historic ties to Ireland.

The Taoiseach also attended a community reception, hosted by the Irish Embassy in Luxembourg, at the residence of the Irish Ambassador to Luxembourg, Jean McDonald, where he gave a speech and met with members of Luxembourg’s Irish community.

The second day of his visit included a meeting with President of the European Investment Bank, Nadia Calvino.
