
On Wednesday 17 September 2025, the President of the European Council, António Costa, paid a working visit to Luxembourg as part of his tour of European capitals.
The visit focused on preparations for upcoming European Council meetings and major international events. Prime Minister Luc Frieden received President Costa at Senningen Castle for a bilateral meeting, followed by a lunch held in honour of the European Council President.
On social media, Prime Minister Frieden stated: “Good to welcome you in Luxembourg dear President of the European Council, António Costa. In uncertain times, our strength lies in unity. Europe can only prosper and move forward together.”
For his part, President Costa described Luxembourg as “the heart of Europe and the cradle of Schengen” and added: “Luxembourg is an indispensable driving force of the European project and I know I can count on your ambition for our unity - particularly on the two priority issues of our security and our competitiveness.”
