The Grand Ducal Police have reported that during the night of Thursday 12 to Friday 13 February 2026, they carried out alcohol intoxication checks in the northern and capital regions on the instruction of the Public Prosecutor, as provided for in Article 12, paragraph 3, subparagraph 8 of the amended law of 14 February 1955 concerning traffic regulations on all public roads.
According to the police, in the northern region the checks took place between 21:00 and 02:00 in Echternach (Route de Luxembourg), Grundhof (Route de Diekirch) and Diekirch (Route d’Ettelbruck / Avenue de la Gare).
A total of 331 motorists were subjected to a preliminary breath test, even in the absence of any serious indication. In four cases, the test returned a positive result; two reports and two fixed-penalty warnings were issued. One driving licence was confiscated on the spot. Police also recorded three additional traffic offences during the operation.
In the capital region, checks were carried out in Luxembourg-Kirchberg (Avenue John F. Kennedy) from 22:30 to 23:30, in Luxembourg-Merl (Route de Longwy) from 00:30 to 01:30 and in Alzingen (Route de Thionville) from 02:30 to 03:30.
A total of 158 motorists were subjected to a preliminary breath test. In nine cases, the result was positive; five reports and four fixed-penalty warnings were issued. Two driving licences were withdrawn on the spot.
