The Grand Ducal Police have reported that on Thursday 20 February 2026, a man was arrested following a shoplifting incident in Esch-sur-Alzette.
According to the police, at around 12:30 a shoplifting was reported in Rue du Canal, where a suspect allegedly took a bottle of alcohol and left the premises without paying. The shop owner followed the individual in order to confront him. When attempting to retrieve the bottle, the shop owner was violently pushed away by the suspect and sustained minor injuries.
A police patrol was able to locate a person matching the suspect’s description shortly afterwards in Grand-Rue. On the orders of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the man was arrested and brought before an investigating judge.
