On Friday 13 March 2026, Tom Fletcher, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, paid a working visit to Luxembourg.

According to Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, the meeting between Tom Fletcher and Xavier Bettel, Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, provided an opportunity to discuss Luxembourg’s commitment to humanitarian action and current challenges in international humanitarian aid.

During the meeting, Minister Bettel recalled that humanitarian action represents at least 15% of Luxembourg’s official development assistance. He also stressed the importance of strengthening the protection of humanitarian workers and ensuring safe and unhindered humanitarian access to populations in conflict zones. Both sides underlined the importance of international solidarity, multilateralism and a strong and effective United Nations system.

Moreover, Prime Minister Luc Frieden and Tom Fletcher held a meeting at Luxembourg's Ministry of State, during which they discussed, among other topics, the challenges faced by key actors involved in international humanitarian aid.

During his visit to Luxembourg, Tom Fletcher was also received in audience by Grand Duke Guillaume and met with representatives of the Chamber of Deputies.
