On Monday 16 March 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported that as part of a general road safety campaign and to raise driver awareness, during the week of Monday 9 to Sunday 15 March, they conducted checks dedicated to seatbelt use and driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to the police, during this period, a total of 43 fixed-penalty notices were issued for offences relating to seatbelt use, including irregularities concerning child seats.

In this regard, the police emphasised that failing to wear a seatbelt constitutes a major risk in the event of an accident, hence the obligation to wear a seatbelt even on short journeys.

In parallel with the seatbelt checks, the police recorded a total of 32 other offences during the checks carried out over the same period.

In 28 cases, driving licences were withdrawn immediately on site due to the results obtained, and a report was drawn up. In four cases, drivers were fined for driving under the influence of alcohol.
