On Thursday 19 March 2026, Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs, Xavier Bettel, and the Minister of National Education, Children and Youth, Claude Meisch, presented a new platform dedicated to global citizenship education.
According to Luxembourg’s Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth, and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Cooperation and Foreign Trade the new platform eduact.lu brings together educational activities offered in this field to Luxembourg schools by Luxembourg development non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
The platform aims to make it possible to understand global interdependencies, to develop critical thinking, to become informed about contemporary issues and to encourage pupils to engage in building a more just and sustainable world.
Ministries noted that the global citizenship education is part of transversal themes that contribute to the development of essential skills needed to function in today’s society and which are present both in the new curriculum of primary education and in the programmes of secondary education.
The new platform centralises educational activities and allows teachers to search for and to book relevant activities that match their pupils’ needs. It highlights the work of NGOs accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and makes global citizenship education more accessible and visible, while helping to integrate it into teaching practices in Luxembourg schools.
Both ministries validate all activities offered on the platform. The system processes bookings through a centralised and secure platform and manages requests and reservations in a unified way.
Eduact will form an integral part of the Extraklass platform, which brings together all educational offers for schools and which will be launched at the start of the 2026/2027 school year.
“The school must not only transmit knowledge, it must also prepare young people to become responsible and committed citizens. Global citizenship education allows young people to better understand the challenges of our time and gives them the keys to engage actively in society. With eduact.lu, we are opening the school further to the world,” underlined Minister Meisch.
Minister Bettel underlined: “Understanding the world is already starting to change it. The eduact.lu platform gives pupils and teachers access to the expertise of development NGOs to train engaged and supportive citizens.”
