The Grand Ducal Police have reported that the discovery of a dummy grenade inside a crashed car in Oetrange triggered a major emergency response on Tuesday 5 May 2026.
Shortly before 17:00 on Tuesday, police received a report of a traffic accident in Oetrange. A woman had struck a post with her car and sustained minor injuries. She was taken to hospital for treatment. The road, Montée d'Oetrange, was blocked as a result of the crash.
During the subsequent on-site inspection, officers discovered what appeared to be a grenade, along with three canisters containing unidentified liquids, inside the damaged vehicle.
A security perimeter was immediately established, and several nearby houses were evacuated. The nearby railway line was also temporarily closed.
The police bomb disposal unit (Déminage) and the army's bomb disposal service (SEDAL) were deployed to the scene to carry out further checks.
Shortly after 19:00, the authorities confirmed that the grenade was a dummy and gave the all-clear. All restrictions were subsequently lifted.
