Luxembourg's Ministry of State and the Ministry of Home Affairs have announced that a FR-ALERT emergency notification will be sent as part of the large-scale nuclear safety and civil protection exercise taking place on Thursday 4 and Friday 5 June 2026.
According to the authorities, the exercise is being organised by the French authorities at the Cattenom Nuclear Power Plant (CNPE) and the Moselle Prefecture, with Luxembourg participating alongside other neighbouring regions and countries.
As part of the exercise, the French authorities will use the FR-ALERT system to distribute a warning message via Cell Broadcast technology. Anyone with a switched-on mobile phone located within the affected border area may receive the message, regardless of their mobile network provider or place of residence.
The authorities noted that the alert will be accompanied by a specific warning tone. The message will clearly indicate that it is part of an exercise and is not related to a real emergency situation.
No action is required from the public.
