On Friday 5 June 2026, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Justice attended the Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Council meeting in Luxembourg.

Luxembourg's Minister of Justice, Elisabeth Margue, took part in discussions with her European counterparts on the establishment and cross-border recognition of parenthood, efforts to combat impunity for crimes committed in the context of Russia's war against Ukraine and European Union (EU) initiatives aimed at ensuring that the establishment of parenthood and the resulting freedom of movement, becomes a practical reality in as many EU member states as possible.

In this context, Minister Margue stated: "The recognition of a child's parenthood would significantly reduce the administrative procedures and costs that families still face today, thereby providing a concrete response to difficulties encountered by European citizens in their daily lives."

The ministers also discussed progress in efforts to combat impunity for crimes committed in the context of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, noted authorities.

In addition, a working lunch focused on EU criminal law initiatives aimed at tackling hate crimes and hate speech. On this occasion, Minister Margue reaffirmed Luxembourg's support for initiatives to adopt EU legislation covering all forms of hate speech and hate crime, regardless of the groups or individuals targeted, in order to ensure equal protection for all victims, added the ministry.
