The deadline to apply for the European Microfinance Award 2025, organised by the Luxembourg-based European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP), the Inclusive Finance Network (InFiNe) and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, is fast approaching.
The organisers have dedicated this year’s award to the theme of “Building Resilience through Inclusive Insurance” and it is open to applications from financial institutions and organisations worldwide that enable low-income and vulnerable people to build resilience and manage risk through inclusive and effective insurance.
The event organisers have announced that for this year’s award they have joined forces with the Microinsurance Network to leverage their knowledge of this topic and benefit from an expert point of view.
The European Microfinance Award (EMA) offers prestigious annual prizes of €100,000 for the winner and €10,000 for the two runners-up who highlight initiatives that provide effective risk management tools to underserved communities.
Founded in 2005, the European Microfinance Award recognises excellence in inclusive finance initiatives. It focuses each year on a different theme to highlight critical areas such as climate change resilience, technology in financial inclusion and women’s empowerment. The award aims to serve two parallel goals: rewarding excellence and collecting and disseminating relevant practices for replication.
Last year’s EMA winner was Ugandan microfinance institution RUFI, for its initiatives to help refugees and displaced people in Uganda.
The deadline to apply for this year’s EMA is Thursday 10 April 2025. Finalists will be announced in October 2025, with the award ceremony taking place on Thursday 13 November 2025.
