
On Friday 29 August 2025, the Embassy of Japan in Luxembourg reported that a team of three students from the European School I in Luxembourg had won the Bronze Award at the International High School Students' Photo Festival Exchange in Higashikawa, Hokkaido, Japan.
The festival, held from 18 to 24 August 2025, brings together secondary school students from around the world to foster international exchange through photography. Each participating country is represented by one school, comprising three students and one teacher, who travel to Hokkaido to take part.
This year ten Luxembourg schools applied to the national selection contest, organised with the support of the Fédération Luxembourgeoise de la Photographie Artistique (FLPA). The European School I team was selected to represent Luxembourg with its photo series "Joys of Labour" where a selected series of six photographs portray local Japanese people in their daily work. Winning the Bronze Award "Higashikawa Training College of International Culture and Welfare Award”.
Prior to their departure from Luxembourg, on 4 August, Ambassador Matsubara invited the three students and their teacher, as well as one of the judges, to the Embassy of Japan in Luxembourg. The Ambassador warmly received them, took interest in their activities and passion for photography, and wished them well for their upcoming travels and international experiences that await.
The Embassy highlighted the importance of such exchanges in strengthening bilateral relations and supporting the personal growth of participants.
