On Wednesday 23 July 2025, Luxembourg’s women’s national basketball team learned their group stage opponents for the first round of the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2027 Qualifiers.

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) held the draw for the first round of the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2027 Qualifiers on Wednesday in Munich, Germany. Luxembourg, placed in seed 3, was drawn into Group A alongside Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel and Ireland.

Tessy Hetting, Technical Director at the Luxembourg Basketball Federation (FLBB), shared her thoughts on the draw with Chronicle.lu: “Overall, we are happy with the results and looking forward to the match-ups. It is a competitive group with two strong programmes, Israel and Bosnia & Herzegovina, while Ireland is an emerging team full of energy and ambition. If Bosnia & Herzegovina compete with their full roster, they belong to the top teams of Europe and will be difficult to beat. It will thus depend a lot on the availabilities of the players and the roster planning for the windows.” She added: “Our objective is very clear, to qualify for the second round.”

The First Round will be played across two windows from 9 to 19 November 2025 and from 8 to 18 March 2026, with each window consisting of three Game days. The winners and runners-up of each group, as well as the three best-ranked third-placed teams, 17 teams in total, will progress to the Second Round.

Luxembourg had come close to making its debut at the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket earlier this year but missed out after losing their final qualifying game to Montenegro. Belgium went on to win the tournament at the end of June 2025.

The 2027 edition of the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket will be co-hosted by Belgium, Finland, Lithuania and Sweden from 16 to 27 June 2027. The host nations have been placed together in Group H and will play their games throughout the entire Qualifiers campaign.
