Women’s League: Underdogs Claim Key Wins
League leaders T71 Dudelange hosted closest challengers AB Contern on Game Day 8 of the Women’s Enovos League. Contern entered the match with a 4-3 record but were unable to trouble the unbeaten leaders, trailing 30-51 at half-time. Centre Ines Beatriz Gomes Jordão contributed fourteen points across the first two quarters. Although the hosts eased off slightly in the third quarter, they regained control in the final period to secure a 91-65 victory. Beatriz finished as T71’s top scorer with 24 points, while Shalonda Renae Winton posted a double-double of 17 points and 18 rebounds. Contern’s Caileigh Ann Walsh scored 28 points, but her efforts were not enough to prevent defeat. Dudelange now remain unbeaten after eight games.
Like AB Contern, Amicale Steinsel now hold a 4-4 record following a 66-71 home defeat to bottom-of-the-table Les Sangliers Wooltz. Captain Lisy Hetting and her team opened the game with a six-point run and extended their lead to sixteen by half-time. In the third quarter, thirteen points from Desiree Genevieve Ramos and seven from Julie Mangen helped Amicale reduce the deficit to five, but Wooltz held firm to close out the win. Hetting scored 25 points, while the game’s top scorer was Ramos with 27 points. This marked only the second victory of the season for Les Sangliers Wooltz.
Another underdog, Musel Pikes, also claimed their second win of the championship, defeating Basket Esch 72-70 at home.
