Microsoft, POST Luxembourg Launch Azure Extended Zone

On Monday 28 September 2026, Microsoft and POST Luxembourg launched a new Azure Extended Zone in Luxembourg, providing businesses and public sector organisations with local access to Microsoft’s cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) services.

The new infrastructure allows organisations to store and process data locally while accessing Microsoft Azure services. According to Microsoft, this is intended to reduce latency and provide additional options for meeting security, resilience and regulatory requirements.

The Azure Extended Zone is connected to Microsoft’s wider Azure platform and forms part of the company’s European Union (EU) digital commitments, including the EU Data Boundary (EUDB). Microsoft said the launch would also support Luxembourg’s “Accelerating Digital Sovereignty 2030” ambitions by giving organisations greater choice over where they store and process their data.

Pierre-Adrien Grange, Country Manager at Microsoft Luxembourg, said: “Today is an important day for Luxembourg’s digital ecosystem. According to the European Commission’s 2026 Digital Decade Country Report, Luxembourg performs strongly in AI adoption, while the use of cloud services and data analytics among businesses remains below the EU average.

The Azure Extended Zone combines POST Luxembourg’s local infrastructure and expertise with Microsoft’s Azure platform. POST said the cooperation would allow it to further develop its digital services while addressing customers’ requirements related to performance, security, compliance and data residency.
