The charity walk Together for Hope (formerly Darkness into Light) took place in Luxembourg City ahead of sunrise on Saturday 9 May 2026.
Approximately 400 people gathered in Luxembourg-Clausen at 05:00 on Saturday in a show of solidarity with those affected by suicide and self-harm. In addition to raising awareness of these issues, the event seeks to support those struggling with their mental health.
Participants walked a 5-kilometre circular route from the Clausen sports hall through the picturesque old quarter of Luxembourg City.
Organising committee member Lynda Jacob explained that the walk, which takes place annually in May, is "for anyone who wants to do something positive and hopeful in memory of someone they have lost to the tragedy of suicide, has struggled or is still struggling through despair, for family members who want to show their loved ones that they understand and that they care; it's for young people, and indeed people at every stage of life, who are finding it hard to cope; it's for parents to show their children that no matter what they are going through, they will be there for them. It is a walk of community and solidarity, a walk of hope".
The walk also raises funds for three local charities: Ligue Santé Mentale, SOS Détresse and KJT (KannerJugend-Telefon), According to Lynda, the organisers' aim is to help "banish the shame and stigma so that it's easier for people to ask for help and not have to face the darkness alone. Symbolically the sunrise is shared together showing that in the darkness of moments there is always hope."
According to the latest report from SOS Détresse, calls to its helpline from people experiencing a suicidal crisis rose by 56% in 2025, with people in their 50s the most affected. Events such as Together For Hope are therefore "extremely important for breaking the taboos surrounding mental health and encouraging those who are suffering to seek help".
Representatives from the three partner charities were once again present at the event to answer attendees' questions.
Among the participants on Saturday were many who have taken part year after year, as well as others attending for the first time.
Whatever the reasons for being there, the organising committee expressed their gratitude to everyone who took part and helped demonstrate that "by coming Together for Hope, we really can turn darkness into light."
