Ukrculture.lu has announced that it is organising a concert-conference celebrating Ukrainian classical music at Pianos Kelly in Niederanven on Saturday 15 November at 18:30.
Pianist Natalia Movchan and violinist Olha Petryk will present and perform works by "remarkable yet largely unknown" Ukrainian composers. The event will also explore themes of cultural resilience, identity, loss and the role of music in preserving collective memory.
"Although Ukraine’s musical tradition dates back centuries and has produced outstanding composers, much of its classical heritage has remained overshadowed, censored or absorbed by other cultural narratives due to imperial pressures and historical erasure," stated the organisers. "This concert-conference seeks to restore visibility to these voices and offer the public a deeper understanding of Ukraine's cultural identity through music."
The programme will feature works by composers such as Borys Lyatoshynsky, Vasyl Barvinsky, Viktor Kosenko, Hanna Havryletz and others - "figures whose contributions shaped the Ukrainian classical landscape, often under conditions of political oppression, exile or cultural suppression."
"For us, this project is not only artistic - it is personal. We feel a responsibility to give space to music that was silenced, to share the beauty, vulnerability and strength of Ukrainian culture," said the artists.
Through live performance, storytelling and contextual introduction to each composer, the event invites the audience to "experience music as a bridge between history and the human heart - where trauma and beauty, fragility and resilience coexist."
This event is made possible through the support of Ukrculture.lu, a volunteer initiative committed to bringing Ukrainian culture to Luxembourg, and with the contribution of Luxembourg philanthropist Geoff Piper, who is described as "a continuous supporter of Ukrainian artists."
The conference will be held in French.
Entry is free, although donations are welcome.
