The Philharmonie Luxembourg has published its calendar of events for the forthcoming 2026/2027 season, which features a varied and eclectic mix of music concerts, film screenings and dedicated festivals for all ages and tastes.
Under the stewardship of Music Director of the Luxembourg Philharmonic Martin Rajna, the new season will run from September 2026 to July 2027 with a programme which includes highlights such as the “Atlas” series of concerts featuring music from Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco, a celebration of saxophonist John Coltrane would have turned 100 in 2026, the “Minimalisme” concerts which will dive into the world of minimalist music from composers such as Steve Reich and John Adams, the “Atlântico” festival and its celebration of music from Portuguese-speaking countries, the return of the popular “Rainy Day” festival concerts - this year under the theme of “Heat” - and the Familljefestivals with its programme of dedicated events for young and very young audiences.
As well as a dense and varied selection of classical, jazz, pop and world music concerts, the programme also includes a number of cinematic presentations which feature classical accompaniment. Featuring a mix of both old and more modern cinema classic, these events have proven to be an extremely popular inclusion in the Philharmonie Luxembourg’s programme and are often soldout well in advance of the events themselves.
Kicking off in September, highlights include a celebration of composer Steve Reich, who turns 90 in 2026. The evening will feature performances from the Colin Currie Group which includes Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians, a legendary piece that has become emblematic of the composer’s entire body of work. There will also be a showing of Carmen backed with a soundtrack performed live by the Luxembourg Philharmonic. Composed by Tobias Schwencke, the music is inspired by themes from Georges Bizet’s opera of the same name.
In October, Martin Rajna takes the helm of the Luxembourg Philharmonic and conducts the orchestra for the very first time in his new capacity as its music director. Undeniably, an occasion not to be missed. The month will also see American singer-songwriter Cat Power bring her 20th anniversary celebrations of her The Greatest album to the Philharmonie, where she and her band will revisit the songs recorded for her seventh album, which won her the Shortlist Music Prize in 2006.
December will feature one of the most popular events in any Philharmonie Luxembourg programme, as the 50th edition of the SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde Gala Concert takes place. The festive season will also be celebrated with a screening of Home Alone featuring a soundtrack performed by the Luxembourg Philharmonic and Chœur de Chambre de Luxembourg.
The highlights for 2027 include a performance from acclaimed pianist Hélène Grimaud in February, worldwide sensation Anna Lapwood will bring her genre-breaking organ playing to the Philharmonie’s Grand Auditorium in March, the Orchestre national de Metz Grand Est will provide the score for a timely presentation of Charlie Chaplin’s legendary Great Dictator in April, Luxembourg-based musician Josh Island will continue to underscore his development as a serious artist with a performance in the Salle de Musique de Chambre in May, and the Luxembourg Philharmonic will perform Hans Zimmer’s renowned soundtrack during a screening of Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi epic Interstellar in June. Closing out the 2026/2027 season will be a free performance by the Luxembourg Philharmonic on the Kinnekswiss in the Edouard André Municipal Park in Luxembourg City, as part of the City of Luxembourg’s (VdL) annual “Kinnekswiss loves” concert series.
