The House of Sustainability has announced that it will host the Antarctic Futures Symposium (AAFS), an international forum, taking place on Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 April 2026 at the Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.
The Andromeda Earth Observatory project aims to explore how climate science, sustainable infrastructure and technological innovation can be combined to develop a next-generation Antarctic research platform. Over two days, participants will examine the future of polar research through interdisciplinary collaboration and international exchange.
The programme will include plenary sessions, thematic working groups and contributions from members of the scientific advisory community. Discussions will cover topics such as climate science, Earth observation, energy autonomy, circular systems, mobility, space technologies and long-term financing models.
The two-day event will run from 08:30 to 18:15 on Thursday and from 08:30 to 13:00 on Friday, followed by a special evening screening of the documentary 2050 at Kinepolis Kirchberg at 17:00.
The symposium will bring together international scientists, research institutes, industry leaders and government representatives. Experts from Luxembourg and Belgium, who have played a role in Antarctic research, will also participate alongside speakers from across the world.
The event is organised by the International Polar Foundation in collaboration with the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology and the House of Sustainability of the Chamber of Commerce.
Attendance requires prior registration, with participation fees depending on the selected sessions and level of access.
