
On Friday 1 August 2025, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Education, Children and Youth confirmed that 5,743 out of 5,764 primary school pupils will progress to secondary education.
At the end of the 2024/2025 school year, an orientation decision was taken for 5,764 pupils in fundamental education. 5,743 pupils were directed towards secondary education. In the 2025/2026 school year, 21 pupils will benefit from an extended Cycle 4.
Of the 5,764 pupils in question:
- 40.6% will continue to a first year (7e) class in a classical secondary school (7e C);
- 46.4% will join a first year class in a general secondary school (7e G);
- 12.6% were directed towards the preparatory pathway (7th P);
- 0.4% will continue an extended primary school cycle in 2024/2025.
The ministry added that the orientation rates towards the different levels of secondary education remained stable with only very slight fluctuations compared to recent years.
The rate of agreement between parents and teachers remained "very high", at 99.6%.
