Eurosolar Lëtzebuerg, a Luxembourg non-profit organisation which advocates the use of renewable energies, has joined the European Energy Communities Facility, a new European Union (EU) initiative that supports citizen-led energy communities across Europe by offering legal, technical and financial assistance.

During a meeting on Friday 13 June 2025 at the Ministry of the Economy, Eurosolar Lëtzebuerg presented this development together with the Centre for Ecological Learning Luxembourg (CELL), several Luxembourg energy cooperatives and other civil society actors. The group met with Minister Lex Delles to share their joint proposals for empowering energy communities in Luxembourg.

The European Energy Communities Facility is an initiative coordinated by REScoop.eu, the European federation of renewable energy cooperatives. The project aims to support the emergence, structuring and professionalisation of local energy communities across Europe through technical, legal and financial assistance.

According to Eurosolar Lëtzebuerg, energy communities play a key role in the transition towards a decentralised, democratic and sustainable energy system. The European Energy Communities Facility aims to provide "tailored support adapted to their specific context" to help local initiatives grow and strengthen their impact.

The project offers a comprehensive support programme through a European one-stop shop for emerging energy communities. Through regular calls for projects, citizen-led initiatives can benefit from start-up grants, expert technical and legal assistance, digital tools and training opportunities, as well as easier access to European resources.

Eurosolar Lëtzebuerg noted that the organisation, as a national contact point, is working to promote the programme in Luxembourg and assist cooperatives and citizen-led energy initiatives interested in applying. The aim is to “strengthen the national network of energy communities and enhance their local impact.”
