On the evening of Tuesday 20 October 2026, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) reported that a fire had broken out on the premises of Cattenom nuclear power station.

According to the CGDIS, on Tuesday afternoon they received a report from plant operator EDF that an electrical transformer had caught fire outside the zone of production Unit 3. The flames were contained by an automatic fire-suppression system. Fire crews from Thionville, Hayange and Sierck-les-Bains were also deployed.

The CGDIS confirmed that as the incident was located outside of the building of the nuclear facility no radioactivity was detected.
