EDF-CNPE has announced that production unit 1 of the Cattenom nuclear power plant was reconnected to the national electricity grid at around 17:30 on Thursday 3 July 2025, following a scheduled maintenance shutdown that began on 15 March 2025.

This scheduled shutdown, known as a "partial inspection", enabled the replacement of part of the fuel and the completion of more than 14,000 inspection and maintenance operations, including 34 modifications to the installation, aimed at further strengthening the reactor's safety.

EDF teams and partner companies carried out major maintenance work, such as the replacement of 21 nuclear power cluster control mechanisms, a full inspection of a low-pressure section of the turbo-alternator group and the replacement of the hydraulic part of a motor pump in the reactor's primary circuit. The shutdown also allowed for the anticipated work linked to the fourth safety review of the reactor, scheduled for 2027, with the aim of smoothing the industrial load.

Separately, unit 3 has been in scheduled shutdown for a partial inspection since 10 May 2025, while units 2 and 4 remain in operation and continue to supply the national electricity grid.
