Fondation Hëllef fir d’Natur has announced that NaturService Sarl is marking its 20th anniversary this year, with an official celebration scheduled to take place on Friday 24 April 2026.
The date was chosen to coincide with European Orchard Day, “highlighting NaturService’s long-standing commitment to this natural heritage,” the foundation noted.
Founded on 29 June 2005, NaturService was established as a complementary entity to the foundation, with the aim of not only planning nature conservation measures, but also implementing them professionally on the ground.
According to the foundation, the entity has, over the past two decades, propagated nearly 400 fruit varieties and planted more than 30,000 trees for the foundation, biological stations, nature parks, public authorities, municipalities and private individuals.
In 2021, NaturService further strengthened its activities with the creation of a tree nursery in Remich and Wintringen, reinforcing its local presence and control over the supply chain.
The organisation is also involved in the preservation of traditional Luxembourg fruit varieties, including apples, pears, cherries and plums, many of which are now endangered. These efforts contribute to maintaining genetic diversity, which is considered important for resilience to diseases and climate change.
The foundation noted that traditions and craftsmanship related to traditional orchards in Luxembourg were inscribed in the national inventory of intangible cultural heritage (IKI) of UNESCO in October 2025.
The anniversary event will bring together key figures associated with NaturService, including Patrick Losch, President of the foundation, Elena Granda Alonso, Managing Director of NaturService, and agricultural engineer Georges Moes.
