On Tuesday 5 May 2026, natur&ëmwelt Asbl presented its new project, naturreseau, an initiative which encourages people across Luxembourg to play an active role in promoting biodiversity.

Natur&ëmwelt, a leading nature conservation NGO in Luxembourg, said the naturreseau project aims to transform gardens, green spaces, balconies and public spaces into valuable habitats, linking them together to form a nationwide ecological network.

The project is based on the simple yet effective idea that every space counts. Whether it’s a private garden, a school playground, company grounds or a local park, small actions can have a significant impact. By promoting native wild plants and avoiding environmentally harmful practices, new habitats for animals and plants gradually emerge in the form of stepping stones and corridors.

Natur&ëmwelt said the focus is on inspiration, not obligation: as part of naturreseau, one can learn how to take concrete action in your local area. Participants make a conscious choice to manage their land in a nature-friendly way, avoiding synthetic chemicals and focusing on native plants while considering all living creatures that share the space. Even small changes, such as creating areas rich in structure or allowing for greater natural diversity, help bring nature closer to us.

The nature conservation NGO highlighted that similar initiatives already exist in several other European countries, including Switzerland, Germany, France and Belgium, and with naturreseau it is bringing this tried-and-tested concept to Luxembourg for the first time, adapting it to local conditions.

According to natur&ëmwelt, an important first milestone has already been reached: the European Parliament in Luxembourg is one of the initiative's initial official supporters, and natur&ëmwelt asbl is now hoping to attract many more partners from across society to help the movement grow.

The project is open to all, including individuals, associations, businesses, local authorities and schools. naturreseau is a community that shares knowledge, celebrates commitment and connects people. Every contribution is an important building block for the greater good.

natur&ëmwelt invites all interested parties to join this growing network and work together to strengthen biodiversity in Luxembourg.
