On Monday 18 May 2026, Luxembourg’s Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity launched two national calls for projects for 2026, entitled “Grasslands 2026” and “Wetlands 2026”.

According to the ministry, these initiatives form part of the implementation of the 3rd National Nature Protection Plan (PNPN3, 2023-2030) and aim to accelerate efforts to restore ecosystems and preserve biodiversity in Luxembourg.

The ministry noted that in the face of biodiversity decline and the increasing degradation of natural habitats, these calls for projects represent an essential mechanism for strengthening field-based action and contribute directly to the implementation of the European regulation on nature restoration and support the achievement of environmental objectives set for 2030.

The priorities include:

• the restoration and sustainable management of biodiversity-rich grasslands;

• the rehabilitation of wetlands, which are key ecosystems for water regulation, carbon storage and biodiversity;

• improving the conservation status of habitats and threatened species;

• strengthening ecological connectivity between natural environments.

Submitted projects must demonstrate a concrete, measurable and sustainable contribution that meets the objectives of the PNPN3. Particular attention will be paid to consistency with the “Habitats” and “Species” action plans, as well as with the objectives of the Natura 2000 network.

Beyond their ecological impact, projects may also incorporate innovative, participatory or exemplary dimensions, particularly in terms of stakeholder cooperation, awareness-raising or integrated management of natural environments.

The ministry is calling on all relevant stakeholders to mobilise, including administrations, municipalities, intermunicipal syndicates, public institutions and approved associations. Through these calls, the aim is to support ambitious and structured initiatives rooted in local realities and led by committed stakeholders.

Selected projects will benefit from financial support from the Environmental Protection Fund, enabling their implementation to be supported over several years.
