On Tuesday 19 May 2026, Ëmweltberodung Lëtzebuerg ASBL (EBL) announced that the national campaign “Ouni Pestiziden” (without pesticides) launched a new initiative, named “Stauden Ouni Pestiziden”, to produce ornamental perennials in Luxembourg entirely without pesticides.
The pilot project seeks both to expand the range of pesticide-free plants available in Luxembourg and to raise public awareness of environmentally friendly plant production, noted the organisers, adding that the
The project originated through collaboration between the seventeen partners involved in the “Ouni Pestiziden” campaign and aims to establish sustainable local perennial production in response to the current shortage of biodiversity-promoting, pesticide-free ornamental perennials in Luxembourg.
For this year’s production, organisers said, they selected and cultivated eight different perennial species. The initiative aims to expand the variety of species in future, ranging from ground-covering varieties to taller ornamental plants which combine aesthetic value with an important role for pollinators. Through pollinator-friendly planting, the project also aims to promote biodiversity and raise awareness of natural gardens throughout Luxembourg.
This year’s pesticide-free perennial production includes Veronica officinalis, Sedum reflexum, Salvia sclarea, Campanula portenschlagiana, Lychnis coronaria, Scabiosa ochroleuca, Epilobium angustifolium and Lavandula angustifolia.
In the long term, organisers aim to establish a firmly rooted pesticide-free ornamental perennial production sector in Luxembourg. From 2027 onwards, citizens and municipalities should be able to rely on a stable and sustainable supply.
As part of the initiative, the perennials will be distributed at festivals, markets and events, as well as planted in demonstration flower beds showcasing pesticide-free ornamental plants, said the organisers.
The official launch of the initiative will take place on Tuesday 26 May 2026 at 15:00 with the inauguration of a demonstration flower bed in front of the Päiperleksgaart in Grevenmacher. The organisers added that the environmental syndicate SIAS and the Atelier d’inclusion professionnelle Yolandecoop collaborated on the installation of the flower bed.
